Independent living requires the use of community resources and few are more important than medical, police, and fire services. Most students know that these resources exist, but few know how to use them to their full advantage. This lack of knowledge limits participation in community life and can be life-threatening in an emergency.
The Community Man series presents important information in a comical manner to assure student attention to specifics on how to make full use of community resources. Teach your students how to get emergency services and medical careeven if they don’t have the money to pay for it. Show your students how to use the pharmacist as a health consultant as well as a provider of medicines. Instruct your your students on how to interact with the police and what kinds of non-emergency services the police can provide. Also, teach your students when and how to call the fire department for emergency and non-emergency services.
